Privacy Policy
Caravan Checklist collects no personal information. There is no account with us, no sign-in, and no server of ours for the app to talk to. If you are signed in to iCloud the app keeps your data in step across your own devices using Apple’s iCloud — that is your private storage, not ours, and we cannot read it. If you pair with the person you travel with, your two phones also share the van’s data directly with each other. This policy is short because there is very little to describe, but it describes all of it, including the one place on this website where you can choose to send us something.
What the app does
Caravan Checklist keeps checklists you run before towing, at a site and when packing up, a schedule of servicing that falls due by date or by distance, a logbook of what you have done, and the details of your van — its weights, dimensions, tyres and key dates.
Where that happens
- Everything you enter is stored on your device, in the app's own private container, protected by the device's file encryption.
- If you are signed in to iCloud, a copy is also kept in your own private iCloud database so your other devices stay in step. It is held under your Apple Account, governed by Apple's privacy policy, and neither we nor any other user of the app can read it.
- The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and collects no advertising or device identifiers.
- The app makes no network requests to any server of ours — we operate none for it — so we hold no logs of your use of it. The only traffic it generates is iCloud sync, carried by Apple's own CloudKit service under Apple's privacy policy, and, if you switch on Travelling Together, the direct link between your phone and your partner’s described below.
- There is no account with us, so there is nothing for us to hold about you even if we wanted to.
What is stored, and where
Your checklists and the ticks against them, your service schedule and its history, your logbook, your van's details, and your settings. All of it is on your device, and it is included in your own iPhone or iPad backup if you have one switched on — that backup is yours and goes to your Apple Account or your computer, not to us.
The app writes a small summary of your next service and your part-finished checks into a shared container on the device so its home screen widgets can display it. That summary stays on the device.
iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud, the app mirrors the same information into the private database of your own iCloud account so that your iPhone and your iPad show the same checklists, the same service history and the same van. Apple provides and secures that storage under Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to it, it is not shared with other users of the app, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else.
Sync is not something you have to set up, and it is not something you are stuck with. Turn iCloud off for Caravan Checklist in iOS Settings, or sign out of iCloud, and the app carries on working normally using only the copy on that device. Deleting the app removes its data from that device; to remove the synced copy as well, delete the app's iCloud data from iOS Settings › your name › iCloud.
Sync goes only through Apple’s own CloudKit service, to and from your account. No server of ours is involved.
Travelling Together
Travelling Together is off until you switch it on. It lets two people on separate Apple Accounts share one caravan’s lists, ticks, service history and van details. You pair the two phones once, by typing a six-digit code shown on the other phone.
- The two phones talk directly to each other over the Wi‑Fi you are both on, or device to device over Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth when there is no network. Nothing goes to a server of ours or to anyone else, and the connection is encrypted with a key only the two paired phones hold.
- Once paired, each phone holds a full copy of the van’s shared data, and whatever either of you changes reaches the other. This is data you have chosen to share with that person; we never see it.
- So the phones can find each other, while the app is open with Travelling Together on, it announces itself on the local network you are connected to. That announcement carries the phone’s name as you set it in the app (by default, the device’s name), and random identifiers for the phone and the van. Anyone on the same network can see it, but not your data. Nothing is announced while the app is closed.
- iOS asks your permission before the app uses the local network. If you decline, the rest of the app works normally.
- Tap Stop Sharing in My Van › Settings › Travelling Together to end it. What the other phone already received stays on it, under that person’s control.
Notifications
If you turn service reminders on, the app schedules local notifications on your device for the dates your servicing falls due. Local notifications are created and delivered by iOS on the device itself; nothing is sent to a server and no push service is involved.
Siri and Shortcuts
The app offers shortcuts so Siri can tell you what is due. Requests you make to Siri are handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. What the app hands back to Siri is read from the same on-device summary described above.
Sharing a run or your logbook
The share buttons in the app hand plain text to iOS's own share sheet, and you choose what happens to it — a message, an email, a note, a file. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you pick a destination yourself, and the app has no idea what you picked.
This website's support form
The support form on this site is the only place we can receive anything from you, and only if you choose to use it. What you type into it — your message, and the name and email address you optionally supply — is sent to our app support team by email and used only to answer you. It is not added to a mailing list, not used for marketing, and not passed to anyone else. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, request time, user agent) for security and operations; these are rotated and deleted routinely.
Data retention and deletion
There is nothing of yours for us to retain: there is no account with us and the app sends us nothing. What you enter lives on your device, in your own private iCloud database if iCloud is switched on, and on your partner’s phone if you have paired with them. Deleting a checklist, a logbook entry or a service record removes it immediately, and that deletion carries across to your other devices. Deleting the app removes its data from that device; to remove the synced copy as well, delete the app's iCloud data from iOS Settings › your name › iCloud.
Children
Caravan Checklist is a tool for vehicle owners and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
